BOTOX® COSMETIC TREATMENTS FOR LINES
AND WRINKLES

Botox® Cosmetic injections are simple, non-surgical procedures that you may choose to temporarily restore a youthful appearance quickly and safely.

What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified prescription chemical injected into the muscles between and along the eyebrows. Over time, aging and the frequent activity of these muscles cause lines and wrinkles to form and you begin to see persistent lines between your brows, on your forehead, and around your eyes. Therapy with Botox® Cosmetic blocks nerve impulses from the brain that direct the facial muscles to respond to stimuli by contracting. When the muscles are relaxed, the skin remains smooth on the surface so lines and wrinkles are less visible.

What improvements can you expect to see after
Botox® Cosmetic?

Because Botox® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles responsible for expression in the brow area, furrows and lines will appear less pronounced. You will begin to see results in as little as 3 days following treatment, with the best results visible in 7 to 14 days. These effects may continue to improve for about a month after treatment, lasting up to 4 months. Moderate lines will gradually return. You may continue treatment and results can be cumulative; the most improved results are visible after a series of treatments have been applied over time.

How is Botox® Cosmetic applied?
Botox® Cosmetic treatment consists of injecting a fine needle into the area of concern. There is little or no pain associated with the treatment, so no anesthesia is required. The procedure is usually completed in 10 minutes, and patients may resume normal activity immediately.

Is Botox® Cosmetic a healthy choice for you?
Your practitioner will discuss the specific characteristics that make you a healthy candidate for Botox® Cosmetic, but the treatment is generally safe and effective in people aged 18 to 65 years.

Are there side effects after using Botox® Cosmetic?
Mild side effects are usually temporary and may include:

  • dry mouth

  • discomfort or pain at the injection site

  • tiredness

  • headache

  • neck pain

  • eye problems such as double vision, blurred vision,
decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your
    eyelids, and dry eyes

  • allergic reactions may include: itching, rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you are wheezing or have asthma symptoms, or if you become dizzy or faint.

You should discuss these possible side effects and any additional concerns you might have with your practitioner before undertaking any procedure.

Botox® Cosmetic for Hyperhidrosis
Botox® Cosmetic is used successfully to treat hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by excessive perspiration on the hands, feet and under the arms. Small doses of Botox® Cosmetic can be injected under the arms to temporarily block the mechanism that promotes perspiration. Your practitioner will discuss the specific characteristics that make you a healthy candidate for using Botox® Cosmetic in this way.
