LASER TREATMENTS TO DIMINISH WRINKLES AND IMPROVE SKIN TEXTURE

At Karlene Dermatology, we perform an advanced range of aesthetic treatments using lasers and light to firm and resurface the skin. We always begin our discussion of these options by considering the "canvas" that's your skin. We'll ask what concerns you most and what you most hope to correct. And we'll spend time educating you about the pros and cons associated with laser and light treatments, so that you'll be sure you're taking the best steps toward the future of your skin.

Thanks to evolving technology, laser and light treatments reach beneath the skin's surface where they activate skin's cellular functions to provide some of the most effective solutions for improving skin of all types and conditions. Used alone, or in combinations, and always in experienced professional hands, these treatments promote fresher, healthier-looking skin with little or no downtime for patients.

Skin Firming with Laser Technology

Skin Firming with a SkinTyteII™Laser Treatment helps to counteract collagen breakdown in aging skin through selective heating and cooling of the skin's surface. These treatments are used often on the face and neck, and also may be used where improved firmness is desired, such as on the abdomen and arms. Most treatments for the face and neck can be completed within 30 minutes. Larger treatment areas may require more time.

SkinTyteII™ uses a series of rapid, gentle pulses of infrared light energy to deeply heat the dermis, stimulating natural healing and renewal of the collagen foundation that supports skin's elasticity. While the pulsing heat does its work, powerful cooling simultaneously protects the skin's outer surface assuring your comfort and safety throughout the SkinTyteII™ procedure.

With a newly strengthened collagen support structure, skin's firmness is increased resulting in a more youthful appearance. It may take up to four months to see the full benefits of the treatment as the collagen foundation is renewed.

SkinTyteII™ is a noninvasive procedure so topical anesthesia is not required, though you may notice some mild, temporary redness in the treatment area following the procedure. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure. SkinTyteII™ treatments are safe for skin of any color.

MicroLaser Peel® (MLP)
A MicroLaser Peel is a laser resurfacing treatment that targets the epidermal, or top layer, of the skin. MLP removes from the surface only a thin layer of damaged epidermal cells which contribute to skin's lack of clarity and aged appearance. With healing, and the naturally refreshing keratinization process, new skin cells reach the surface imparting a softer, more vibrant texture and improved clarity of color.

Following an MLP treatment, you will notice some flaking of the damaged skin cells as they peel away from the surface. You may also experience some skin sensitivity, redness and mild swelling. It is recommended that you avoid direct sun exposure immediately following the procedure. Your practitioner will recommend products to care for your skin post-procedure, including a sunscreen to protect against your skin's heightened sensitivity to UV light as it heals. The skin should heal within 3 to 4 days, and most patients feel confident in returning to normal activities and work after this time.

MLP can be used to treat most skin areas, and is effective for reducing the appearance of mild wrinkles, scars, keratosis, freckles and irregular pigmentation. Because MLP penetrates only the superficial levels of the epidermis, it is used without topical anesthetic and is nearly painless.

The treatment is usually complete in 15 to 30 minutes.

Profractional™ Resurfacing (PFR) to
Improve Skin Texture

ProFractional™ Resurfacing targets conditions that exist deeper within the skin and works to "remodel" the collagen structure that gives skin its youthful firmness. A tiny laser beam channels energy into the dermis at specific points, leaving surrounding areas unaffected. This "fractional" approach allows untreated tissue to promote rapid healing and evolving collagen rejuvenation, resulting in the skin's renewed resilience. You may also notice a tightening effect after treatment as the collagen rebuilds over the healing period.

PFR can be used to treat most skin areas, and is effective for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and facial lines, sun damage, pigment irregularities, keratosis, and improving texture. The treatment, which usually lasts between 15 to 30 minutes, can be performed using a topical anesthetic, depending on the depth of the treatment.

Following a PFR treatment, you may experience some skin sensitivity and redness similar to a sunburn sensation, as well as mild swelling. These will dissipate within a few days. It is recommended that you avoid direct sun exposure immediately following the procedure. Your practitioner will recommend products to care for your skin post-procedure, including a sunscreen to protect against your skin's heightened sensitivity to UV light as it heals, and a nourishing moisturizer. Healing is usually complete with a few days after treatment, and most patients feel confident in returning to normal activities and work after this time.
